TECHNOLOGY

MX's goal is to enhance the consumer experience through a combination of software and video player innovations.

DVD-Video

The focus of MX's DVD-Video technology has been to exploit the largely untapped interactive potential of the format, especially the capabilities of seamless multi-angle and DVD-ROM, while insuring the highest possible levels of player compatibility.

MX's DVD-Video technology, also known as MX DVD, is the result of years of authoring and production experiments, iterative development, and extensive testing across a variety of third party evaluation matrixes.

The results of our development have been incorporated into a proprietary authoring tool that extends the capabilities of the DVD-Video specification. The MX DVD tool is available to participants in the MX Developer Program and its capabilities are patent pending. More information about MX DVD is available in the Solutions section.

The MX DVD technology and tools have been developed in partnership with Technicolor Creative Services, a division of Thomson.

Blu-ray

Unlike MX's inital R&D in DVD-Video that accepted certain limitations in the installed base of DVD players, MX is taking a ground-up approach and working within both the format bodies and with individual manufacturers to overcome limitations that inhibit compelling interactive video experience, MX's Blu-ray technology, also known as NextGen MX, address angle-changing latency, audio and video synchronization, and the handling of media metadata. More information about NextGen MX is available in Solutions.

MX is committed to supporting both next-generation disc formats and is both a Principal Member of DVD Forum & Contributing Member of Blu-ray Disc Association.

Blu-ray, HD DVD & HD Authoring Alliance logos

MX is a also a member of the High Definition Authoring Alliance (HDAA), a worldwide association of top DVD authoring houses dedicated to facilitating the rollout of titles for release in the new high definition Blu-ray Disc (BD) optical disc format. The HDAA is an initiative of Sonic Solutions, providers of industry standard Scenarist authoring tool, as well as other leading consumer oriented DVD authoring tools.

R&D

MX was founded with the vision of a cross-platform interactive video format that would deliver compelling new forms of movies, music, and sports across a wide range of devices and distribution channels.

Today, MX's R&D primarily focuses on extending the MX format to IPTV, satellite, cable, and game platforms.

Other subjects of interest to MX include the impact and opportunities around advanced compression schemes, emerging digital rights management systems, and the unforeseen capabilities of emerging game platforms.
